Hala Fadel is the co-founder and managing partner at Leap Ventures, a tech-focused entrepreneur-led venture capital firm that operates in MENA and Europe. Hala has 20 years of experience in finance and entrepreneurship. She has been a portfolio manager for 12 years in European Equities at Comgest, a €20bn growth equity fund focused on investing in growth companies. During her time at Comgest, the fund grew about tenfold becoming a well established outperforming global growth fund. Hala started her career in 1996 at Merril Lynch in London in mergers and acquisition. She is the founder and chair of the MIT Enterprise Forum of the pan-Arab region, an organization that promotes entrepreneurship and organises, among other things, the MIT Arab startup competition since 2006, receiving thousands of applications every year from 20 countries. Hala also sits on the global board of the MIT Enterprise Forum. Hala graduated from HEC in France in 1997, attended the Berkeley Haas School of Business, and holds an MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management.

Huma Abidi is the Engineering Director of Deep Learning in the Artificial Intelligence Product Group at Intel Corporation, where she is responsible for Deep Learning framework software optimization for Intel processors. Huma joined Intel as a software engineer and has since worked in a variety of engineering, validation, and management roles in the area of compilers, binary translation, and machine learning and deep learning. She received the Intel Achievement Award for her work in the Software and Services Group and was twice recognized with the Intel Software Quality award. Huma holds a BS in Pre-med and Chemistry and an MS in Computer Science from the University of Massachusetts. She has received Executive Training in Fostering Inclusion and Diversity by Yale School of Management.
She is passionate about girls’ education and is involved with several non-profit and philanthropic organizations that educate and support underserved girls in the US and developing countries. She was listed as #2 by AIThority as Women using AI technology to change the world. She enjoys giving talks, podcasts, and presentations at AI conferences, including a keynote at the AI O'Reilly conference held in San Francisco in Sept 2018. She was recently also featured in the Silicon Valley Business Journal for her role in AI leadership.

Ferid Belhaj

Ferid Belhaj took up the position of World Bank Group Vice President for the Middle East and North Africa on July 1, 2018. Prior to this, Mr. Belhaj served 15 months as the Chief of Staff of the President of the World Bank Group.
From 2012 to 2017, Mr. Belhaj was World Bank Director for the Middle East, in charge of World Bank work programs in Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Iraq, and Iran, based in Beirut, Lebanon. In this capacity, he led the Bank engagement on the Syrian refugee crisis and its impact on the region, including the creation of new financing instruments to help countries hosting forcibly displaced people; the ramping up of the Bank drive towards the reconstruction and recovery of Iraq during and after the ISIS invasion and the scaling up of the Bank's commitments to Lebanon and Jordan.
Before taking up his Mashreq assignment, Mr. Belhaj served as World Bank Director for the Pacific Department (2009-2012), where he developed a regional strategy that scaled up Bank engagement in small and fragile states, and tripled lending operations of the International Development Agency, one of the five institutions under the umbrella of the World Bank Group that provides interest-free loans and grants for Low-Income Countries.
From 2007 to 2010, Mr. Belhaj was the World Bank’s Special Representative to the United Nations in New York, where he engaged with various UN agencies on a range of programs, mainly climate change, the Millennium Development Goals, fragile and post-conflict states, and the global financial and food crises.
Ferid Belhaj served as World Bank Country Manager for Morocco (2002-2007), where he developed a new and multifaceted dialogue with one of the best performing Middle-Income countries.
A Tunisian national, Mr. Belhaj joined the Bank in 1996 as Senior Counsel in the Legal Department, managing a number of legal and judicial reform projects. He also served as Bank Counsel for countries, including Egypt, Morocco, Iran, Algeria, and Thailand.

She is responsible for representing the company on all issues related to public policy and government affairs in the MENA region. She joined the company in July 2017 and is a member of the senior leadership team in the Dubai office.
Nashwa previously worked in a similar capacity for Google, based out of Cairo, where she focused on policy development, advocacy efforts, economic impact programs and safety online. Prior to that, Nashwa worked for the US Mission in Egypt, in different roles including political advisory on human rights, domestic politics, Middle East Peace Process as well as in roles in consular affairs, and the office of military cooperation.
